Two's Company, Thirty Is A "Crowd"

sheehan crew.jpg

At least that's what the A/P considers a crowd. Because that's all the America-hating moonbats that Cindy Sheehan could muster for her march on the White House this weekend.

H/Ts to: Confederate Yankee, Powerline, and BullDogPundit (who makes the observation: "there were more people at my flag football game this weekend")

Navy-Trained Dolphin "Assassins" Missing?

Supposedly a coastal compound that housed 36 specially trained dolphins, trained to shoot terrorists attacking military vessels, was breached by Katrina. And these sooper sekret military marine mammals are now loose in the Gulf somwhere.

Experts who have studied the US navy's cetacean training exercises claim the 36 mammals could be carrying 'toxic dart' guns. Divers and surfers risk attack, they claim, from a species considered to be among the planet's smartest. The US navy admits it has been training dolphins for military purposes, but has refused to confirm that any are missing.
Well, it's not exactly sharks with frickin' lasers on their frickin' heads, but it's a start.

Giants V. Chargers

wk3.jpg

UPDATE: 11:56pm
Well, that was fun. Seriously, San Diego needed this game. Already two in the hole, the next several weeks presents a brutal schedule with such teams as: New England, Pittsburgh, Oakland, Philly...ouch. If they lost tonight, they could pretty much have written the season off. This game had a playoff intensity about it.

The Chargers played hard and they played to win, and my hat's off to them. To be honest I'm a lot less annoyed at the loss itself as I am of the fact that San Diego's star running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, was so often referred to as "L.T."

There is only ONE L.T. and that's Hall Of Fame Linebacker #56 Lawrence Taylor. And to have the announcers on ESPN constantly singing "L.T.'s" praises really got on my nerves. Let the guy come up with his own friggin' nickname.

Anyway, I was impressed with Eli Manning's poise throughout this game. He never got rattled, not once. And he kept making awesome passes well after the game seemed to get out of reach. And to come back from a 21-3 deficit and end the second half within one point of Chargers was encouraging. Manning has proven that good things will happen in his career. This is only the beginning.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I've heard people say this week that the Chargers are not really an 0-2 team. That's a crock. If you have no wins and two losses then guess what? You're an 0-2 team and you earned that record. Potential is for shit in the NFL.

Face it, there are a few elite teams in the league, a few dogs, and on any given Sunday any of those teams in the middle is capable of beating any other team in the middle. Parity in Pro Football is the reality. So I don't care how "good" on paper a team is supposed to be. If they don't play well, they're going to get their asses handed to them.

Now the Chargers may very well beat the Giants tonight. But if they do it's not because they "should be able to", it'll be because they played smarter, harder and better.

But my money is on New York. If San Diego is really better than their record would indicate, they're going to have to prove it.

And of course if the Chargers do win, I'll chalk it up to fact that they were due. ;-)

The Usual Suspects

What's the biggest difference between those who protested during Vietnam and the caravan of loony-toons following Cindy Sheehan around protesting about Iraq?

Simple: Thirty-five years ago, there was a groundswell of opposition to the war made up of individuals who, however naive and misguided, were reflecting a genuine feeling in the country at the time. Today, this motley road show of media hounds is comprised of professional protesters. Opposition to this war, is mostly a reflection of various kook organizations trying to push their Left-wing anti-American agenda.

Betsy Newmark shines the spotlight on these familiar names and faces who always manage to show up whenever there's an opportunity to perform for the cameras - and hatred of America is their primary motivation.

The Mentality Of Our Enemies

Cicero at WindsOfChange.net found a five-year old article that recounts a story of torture in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The atrocities speak for themselves. But Cicero makes an important observation from this story.

I was struck by the commander who said, 'I want to kill a very bad pagan among the prisoners to receive more blessing from Allah." I think his reasoning is emblematic of what we're up against with respect to Islamic fascism. We in the West desperately want to believe that we can find common, rational ground and negotiate with Islamic fascists. The Commander exemplifies why negotiation, in the end, is folly. For them, they merely buy time with negotiation. Their life on Earth is not important; it's what comes after that matters. We should be mindful of that while we lodge complaints to Iranian mullahs who race towards making isotopes.
This is something the peaceniks - or the appeasers - just don't understand. To those who say "war is never justified" I would point out that, whether they want to admit it or not, war is being made on the United States and the Western world. For those who purposely target and murder the innocent in the name of Wahabism, this war won't be over until all the world follows the tenets of Islam or until all those who refuse are dead. We can either do whatever we can to fight this, or we can simply accept it as inevitable.

Bury your head in the sand at your own peril.

Hillary AND John McCain To Meet With Cindy?

OK, I can understand the rationale for Clinton giving Sheehan the time of day. She's got plenty of Left-wing nuts pressuring to do so.

But McCain?!? This is the guy who spent five years at the Hanoi Hilton while war protesters back home gave support and comfort to the enemy? He's meeting with this moonbat?

Now I know McCain is a media hound and suffers from an irrational desire to be liked by everyone. But this should have other Vietnam Veterens' blood boiling. I can only hope that he's taking this as an opportunity to verbally bitch-slap her and try to shame her for her bull-shenanigans.

I'm not holding my breath.

True Colors

Hillary choses:

"I believe I must vote against [Roberts'] confirmation. I do not believe that the Judge has presented his views with enough clarity and specificity for me to in good conscience cast a vote on his behalf."
So there's not really an issue with his qualifications. It's just that he didn't pass the Chuckie Schumer test - spell out plainly how you would rule on any number of cases that may come before you.

So reads her official statement. Well neither did Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 1993, and rightly so. Such testimony would encourage one side or another to bring cases before SCOTUS with the idea that he or she has already "pre-judged" the case.

Hillary is trying really, really hard to present a "moderate" face to potential voters for her Presidential run in 2008. But if she doesn't mollify her base the hard-Left moonbats, she won't be a Senator in 2007.

Watch many a Dem Senator pull this same stunt - with the same rationale - next week, when Roberts' nomination goes before the full Senate. If he's confirmed with 65 total votes, it would be a miracle.

And once again, Democrats will show the average voter that it doesn't matter who Bush nominates - no matter how qualified - he or she will be "unacceptable" to the moonbat Left, who is in the driver's seat for the Dems.

Cindy's Magic Psychedelic Bus Tour

NRO's Byron York reports on Cindy Sheehan's cross-country protest, which is manned by nothing more than a handful of aging hippies and professional protesters.

Don't these people have actual jobs?

Pathetic, yet hilarious. My favorite part is when the RV backs over the Vespa. Like...bummer, man.

Bush's Spending Spree

Peggy Noonan has some choice words for the huge binge that the President and the Congressional GOP leaders are currently on as a political strategy:

I never understood compassionate conservatism to mean, and I don't know anyone who understood it to mean, a return to the pork-laden legislation of the 1970s. We did not understand it to mean never vetoing a spending bill. We did not understand it to mean a historic level of spending. We did not understand it to be a step back toward old ways that were bad ways.

I for one feel we need to go back to conservatism 101. We can start with a quote from Gerald Ford, if he isn't too much of a crabbed and reactionary old Republican to quote. He said, "A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have."

The administration knows that Republicans are becoming alarmed. Its attitude is: "We're having some trouble with part of the base but"--smile--"we can weather that."

Well, they probably can, short term.

Long term, they've had bad history with weather. It can change.

The Republican base - whose guiding principle is fiscal restraint - has been more than patient up to this point. How much farther will that patience last? Hard to tell. And since Bush isn't running for anything, he won't have to worry for his own future. It's the next wave of Republicans that will be taking sides over this contentious debate...assuming of course that there even IS a debate.
