Skye remembers Marcello Matricciano, 31, WTC

Marcello was a loving husband, father and brother whose life was cut short on a Tuesday morning in 2001. I've never had the pleasure of knowing Marcello in life - yet during my research on his life, I would imagine it would have been an honor to call Marcello a friend.

What I can share are the words of those who knew and loved him speak to his character:

His wife Rosie recalls:

Marcello was a loving husband, father and son. He was Wall Street's biggest fan. I met Marcello when I was 17 years old and he was 19 in the Bear Stearns' mailroom department where we were both starting our careers. While others read magazines and junk that circulated around the mailroom, Marcello read the Wall Street Journal, NY Times and all of the latest financial information. He was fascinated by Wall Street and couldn't understand why others didn't share in his passion. I knew then that he would be successful on Wall Street. He was always the center of attention at family gatherings, sharing his knowledge of the markets. He became his family's own financial planner and he loved every minute of it. He will forever be remembered to all who knew him as ambitious and someone who stopped at nothing until he achieved his goal.

He enjoyed reading, music, soccer, cycling and, boy, did he love his Italian Food! Nothing but the best for him. He loved to read up on all of the best restaurants and best wines. He always made it his business to try the latest and the greatest places just so that he could say he tried it. He looked forward to his weekend rides in Central Park with his buddy Ed where he would work off all of the food he had eaten just days before.

Then there is Nicholas. Oh, how he loved his son! He lived his life for his son. He loved the best of everything and never gave his Nicholas or I any less. Nothing could make him happier than Nicholas could. I could not have asked for a better father for my son. Although Nicholas had you for only 4 years of his life, he will remember you for eternity. You made such an impact in his life. He misses you dearly!

My love, you were a devoted father and husband. You always managed to make me laugh with your silly and sometimes obnoxious comments. The way you dedicated your life to your family will never be forgotten. We were all very proud of you and I, too, hope to make you proud of me in the way I will continue to raise our son. You will forever be missed by your family and all who knew you. Life as I knew it will never be the same without you. You will forever be in our hearts. Goodbye My Love, until our paths cross again! Nicholas and I will LOVE YOU FOREVER!

Jason Kendall recalled the humor of Marcello

Marcello Matricciano was our company clown and stress-reliever. He was able to walk into a room, insult us all completely and make us laugh. His insults were right out of a South Park cartoon, and his friendship was as dear as his mouth was dirty. His bouyant character helped us all calm down in the bad economic days. And in the good days, he was a beacon of laughter and friendship. His wife and son, Nick, will sorely miss him.

His image can be found on a Memorial Quilt

Out of the Night that covers me
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance,
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of Wrath and Tears,
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
But yet the menace of the years,
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate.
I am the captain of my soul.

Invictus
by William Ernest Henley

Rest in Peace, Marcello.
May perpetual light shine upon you.

1 God bless his wife and son. May he rest in peace. By God, I hope they have cable or dvd players in Heaven so he can keep watching new episodes of South Park. Hehe...can you imagine South Park in heaven? Anyway, thanks for honoring Marcello Matricciano, skye.

2 I almost posted the Muhammed South Park episode on this tribute, Word. Humor has its place, and didn't think it would be appropriate. Although, Word, could you dedicate any future South Park episodes you post on your blog to Marcello? I was thinking of doing the same WHENEVER Midnightblue is up and running.

4 Thank you for writing this. My heart goes out for his wife and daughter. I also did a tribute for a Cantor-Fitzgerald family member. Adam K. Ruhalter

6 Greetings one and all! I find myself overwhelmed with emotion as my cousin, Marcello Matricciano, is remembered by perfect strangers. It lightens my heart to know that people who didnÂ’t know him, would go out of their way to make sure he isn't just another number. For this I sincerely send my thanks to those of you who have taken the time to acknowledge MarcelloÂ’s life, thank you and I have this to shareÂ… I like to remember Marcello in life because he really was quite the character. He left a lasting impression on everyone who met himÂ…good or bad, lolÂ…and when it came to talking, IÂ’d finally met my match. RosieÂ’s words are truest and to her I thank for having made him so happy throughout their time together and for bearing the light of his life. To lose a father at such a tender age is unspeakable, but it is up to each one of us who knew him and loved him to tell the stories so that Nicholas may come to know him again and forever be reminded of the man he once knew. I grew up with 'Cello; for many years he traveled to Toronto, where I live, for summer vacations & we'd have two months to get ourselves into more than enough trouble. He always told me heÂ’d end up on Wall Street and when he made it to 1 WTC well, life was grand! I find solace in the fact that he loved being there. ItÂ’s ironic that he lived for and died with the towersÂ…1970-2001 As we got older and our holidays got shorter, we made sure to stay in touch; from the first day Rosie was on the scene he was a changed man, and after Nicholas was born, his dream fulfilled. He beamed at the mention of his son and took pride in telling me all about him. I am blessed to have known him and to have so many memories to share and to remember. Having been his confidant for many of our younger years is something I treasure. I am grateful too, for his final visit to Toronto in July of that year where we shared his 31st birthday Â… IÂ’d like to sign off with the knowledge that so long as we continue to love and celebrate you, your life, and your family, your spirit is alive and lives on forever ∞. Like him, I too have the gift of gab and would like to add my plea for the plight of mankindÂ…for so many carried hatred in their hearts prior to 9/11, now so many more because of 9/11 and without purging oneÂ’s self of such hatred, there is no hope...and without hope there is only death! There is still so much more to live for and so to Rosie, Nicholas, Michael, and family, my condolences for your combined losses on 9/11/01 and my congratulations on moving on and not getting stuck in the sorrow, but moving forward to keep the love and the life force alive. Thank you for being a part of our family...Canada loves you!!! Jah bless! Teresa

8 So sad. My honoree also left a young son named Nicholas. There are so many children who will grow up without their dads. At least my children were old renough to remember their father.

13 Thanks for remembering Marcello Matricciano. So many innocent lives were taken from us on that day. It's important to realize that the dead are more than a number. They are fathers, sons, husbands or wives, mothers and sisters. I hope that this anniversary stiffens the resolve we need to be effective in winning the war on terror and defeating the evil which brought this nightmare to our land. We owe that to Marcello, his family and to future generations of Americans.

14 Skye, I was finally able to access the site! What a nice and sincere tribute. Thank you so much... It's been an extremely emotional day. I've read so many wonderful tributes. And your's is no exception.

15 Although, Word, could you dedicate any future South Park episodes you post on your blog to Marcello? Haha...if I don't, just give me a swift kick in the balls. That should make me remember the words, "Never forget..."

16 Skye-What a touching and loving tribute to a man who lived large. He loved large, he ate large and he lived his life to the fullest. From the sounds of it, his only regret was that he didn't live long enough. The time he was here, he gave everyone his all! Thank you for introducing me to him.

17 Marcello sounds like a wise ass ... just like me! I wonder if he knew my tributee - he probably did - Gary Lee, who also worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. What a loss. His family is in my thoughts. Thanks, Skye, for a wonderful tribute.

18 Very good tribute Skye, thank you. Marcello sounds like Louis, full of life and bristling with optimism. That the world is a grand place and family/friends are what makes it truly grand. Thanks.

19 I just discovered that we can now leave comments here at the "Ex-Donkey" blog -- so let me say THANK YOU, Skye, for your usual thoughtful, thorough, inspiring work in preparing and posting this moving tribute to yet another of the 9/11 victims. Marcello sounds like the kind of man we would all like to have as a friend and his obvious love for his family -- which was returned in kind -- is indeed heartwarming. I hope they can take some solace in knowing that Marcello and the other 2995 innocent victims who were murdered that day will NEVER be forgotten! Thanks for helping ensure that through this posting, Skye; You are someone pretty damn special yourself!
