Some quick (OK, not so quick) takes from the Ronald D. Moore podcast of this episode.

Always envisioned the destruction of the Pegasus. Interesting that they kept it around as long as they did, but needed to go back to the idea of one lone remaining Battlestar. Not to mention that the Pegasus sets were expensive and they needed them for future episodes where they go aboard a Cylon Base Star.

Tigh and Ellen story. Ellen would pay a price for collaboration. Powerfully emotional piece. Originally set for the first hour, pushed to the second hour. Heartwrenching scene. When Ellen first came to the show they didn't know where they were going with her, but found that she and Tigh were an interesting duo.

Hard to kill her off. But the scene was an amazing piece of acting for both characters. Certain "nobility" and tragedy to her death.

Does she know she's going to die? RDM thinks she might know.

This event in Tigh's life will reverberate throughout the rest of the season.

Baltar/Three conversation:

What would you have us do? "Leave". (I called that one before he said it.)

Cylons are aware that vengeance runs deep in human history.

The Escape:

Was a real challenge in terms of visual effects. They went into red on this episode.

Lee knew Pegasus was a suicide mission (for the ship). Became logical that Galactica would go on the mission but escape. Pegasus would come to the rescue and sacrifice itself.

The Battle:

RDM bought into the idea that it could down head toward New Caprica, launch Vipers and jump the hell out of there.

When it looks like Galactica is doomed, Adama stops, looks around to his men and says "It's been an honor". That is Adama's character.

Really wanted Pegasus' destruction to be dramatic - the wing flying off and taking out the second Base Star.

Final Scenes:

Roslin assuming her former role on Colonial One.

Return of business, "family" of Galactica reunites and comes back together.

Casey was NOT Starbuck's child. It was Leoben's mind game on her.

Return of Saul Tigh. One of the most emotional moments of all between Tigh and Adama. These two men fulfilled what they set out to do. But there was a cost.

Irony of the celebration, but the audience's heart goes out to Tigh. Loss amid the victory.

Scene with Roslin and the realization that Hera was not among them originally in the next episode but they moved it back.

Adama's shaving of the moustache. Kind of symbolic of the end of the whole "New Caprica" story arch. Now he's returned to the old Adama we knew before.

Life goes on.

Excellent episode. Now we're back in space.

More than seven months ago I couldn't for the life of me figure out how they were going to get out of this situation. Congratulations to the writers for a great job.

I'm a happy fan.

3 Frakkin' "A"! That was an awesome episode. I was wondering what would ultimately become of the Pegasus. I mean, it's Battlestar Galactica after all. So Skye, how about them spoilers? :wink:

5 This episode blew the bar off the chart! I really can't wait till next week!! The spoiler sources were close, Gary...as spoiler sources go. They were right about the Pegasus, Ellen, and close on Casey. Although, I strongly suspected that Casey was not Kara's. The scene in the hangar bay of Galactica tore my heart out. Loved Baltar and Three's conversation about hate and civilization teaching their children.

7 THAT was FRAKKING AWESOME!!! "We're falling like a rock!" then "poof!" And the Pegasus - Gods rest her soul - taking out not one, but two (maybe more!) base stars - very poignant ending for a great battlestar. Fantastic episode, especially with the special effects on those ships. Thank you to the writers!!! Thank you to the whole frakking show!!!
