I hate them with the white-hot intensity of a thousand burning suns.
Why? Simple. I'm a New York Giants fan and will be until they bury me in my Lawrence Taylor # 56 replica jersey. I'm lying about the burying part. I plan to be cremated - while wearing the jersey of course.
I don't think there is an older rivalry in the NFL. If there is it's Bears and Packers but we're dating back to 1925 here. For me it's a little more recent - 1979. The famous "fumble" game where the Giants had a lead against the Eagles in the final two minutes of the game. A game which was serving as the end cap to a horrible, last place, 6-9 (at that point) season for Big Blue. All they had to do was take a knee. But no, they decided to run a play. The Giants muff a simple hand-off. The ball drops to the turf. The Eagles pick it up and run into the end zone. Game over.
Oh sure, the Giants have had their share of sweet victories over Philadelphia over the years. But for me, the most bitter losses come at the hands of that team.
I watched some of the NFC Championship game and the cockiness of those guys oozed out of my brother's flat screen TV. Yeah, I know the last three years they were one game away from the Superbowl and they were pumped at the prospect of going this year. But they over did it.
Now they go up against the Pats. Despite living in the Southwest corner of New England, I never was a Patriots fan. The whole time I was growing up they were the joke of the AFC East. Even their unlikely appearance in Superbowl XX against the Bears was a humiliating defeat. No thanks.
But this team is unbelievable. Led by Head Coach Bill Belichick (a former Defensive Coordinator of two Giants Superbowl champion teams I might add), I have to say they are the real deal. Offense, Defense, Special Teams. It's all there. And I'm really looking forward to New England humiliating the Eagles on national TV. There's probably nothing worse in the NFL than LOSING a Superbowl (trust me on this one). And I can't wait for all those Eagles fans to be crying in their beers come Sunday night.
Besides, Tom Brady is a Republican.
Go PATS!!! I'm countin' on ya.
