A story to share...

Had a meeting this a.m. at my place of employment. Before it gets underway, people are still assembling in the conference room and everyone is exchanging pleasantries, making small talk, etc.

This one guy, who I normally don't deal with on a daily basis, begins talking to no one in particular but to the whole group that has gathered at that point. Now this guy is a raging liberal and unabashed Clinton-apologist, and everyone is pretty familiar with his political leanings as he'll share them with anyone who cares to listen.

So he pipes up, "Can I take a poll, here?". Everyone just kind of looks at him and nods apathetically. "Is everyone else here sick of hearing about Iraq?" Then he sort of chortles as he expects everyone to join in.

Uncomfortable silence as his chuckle begins to trail off.

"Actually", I say with pretty firm conviction, "I think its pretty amazing."

He just kind of has this awkward look on his face like he couldn't believe someone wouldn't agree with him - this IS a blue state after all. So he kind of smiled nervously and shrugged his shoulders, "well, guess we're not all in agreement then".

I guess I'm just continually amazed that anyone could be so bitter and so angry at Bush that they can't even be happy for these people. I believe many Democrats and liberals were just holding out hope that Sunday would have been a disaster - barely any turnout and a bloodbath for those who did. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be so negative, so pathetically wrapped up in your own hatred and despair that you wish for something like this to fail only because you want that failure to reflect on the President. Very sad. Very, very sad.
