Left-Wing Media Getting Lost In the Free Market Of Ideas
Drudge is
reporting two pieces of information that have to make Liberals glum. First, the recent book release
"Crashing The Gates" by Markos Moulitsas Zuniga (the force behind DailyKos) has sold...ahem...3,630 copies. Now you can argue that a book about blogging doesn't really have a market, but if you look at the success of Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds and his bestselling
"An Army Of Davids" (both books were released in March), that won't fly. And with 3 million hits a day, you'd think at least
some of his audience would pony up to pick up a copy, no?
Next we have radio. Air America continues to tank in the ratings, losing more than a third of its audience in the last year. Where's the market for gob-smacking Bush hatred? Even in NYC where Air America is broadcast from its flagship station WLIB, the best that afternoon drive time host Randi Rhodes can pull in is 27,000 listeners, down from 60,000 last fall.
I have some thoughts about these items. But first, a little Shadenfreude...

This, btw, is rather why I don't believe there's going to be any kind of electoral tsunami this fall and probably not in '08 either. Folks are grumbling over gas prices and concerned about the war in Iraq, but that doesn't translate into a burning desire to throw the bums out, especially when the alternative is percieved as a gang of rabid moonbats.
My guess? Gas prices will drop, slow but steady progress will continue to be made in Iraq and poll numbers will rise. (Indeed, I am already beginning to sense that things have bottomed out, even with all the new flap over immigration.) Meanwhile, the Kos Echo Chamber will get even shriller.

Jay Cost looks at the Dems prospects in the WSJ today: http://www.opinionjournal.com/federation/feature/?id=110008288
he looks at history as an indicator and his basic premise is that since 1914 (direct election of Senators) the senate has switched control without the house but never vice-versa. even dems are writing off prospects of taking the Senate, which would make taking the House even less likely.
he breaks out the reasons why this so. very persuasive.

Don't gloat too much. Kos's book is number 26 on Amazon, which means it has sold more than 3,600 copies. I know this because my own book is number 65,000 on Amazon (and that's up from the 500,000s, where it has spent some time) and has sold more than 3,600 copies.

Drudge is quoting Nielson numbers, which are comprised of actual scanned sales. Amazon rankings are different. It's apples and oranges, see: http://www.selfseo.com/story-12221.php
In any case, the fact that Kos's book is sooooooooo off the radar makes my point.
...and gives me plenty of reason to "gloat".

Go ahead and plug your book:

As I recall Hugh Hewitt's book did fairly well too.

Top Liberal Cities In The U.S.
Human Events has ranked the Top 10 Most Liberal in the United States. Very few surprises other than some of the ranking. For example, Seattle was number ten but I would have figured it to be higher.
Go check out the list and rationale for the ranking. See if you can guess which was number one. Here's a hint: peace, love, dope.

Notice how CA owned 1/5th of that list. No surprise. Interesting to see how the "Left Coast" had 4 cities which tied the East Coast's 4.

"peace, love, dope."
Isn't it a bit early to be posting your Christmas list?

The Science Behind The Angry Left
Whenever I dip a toe into the fever swamp of the bitter, angry, unhinged Left side of the blogosphere (which I will do once in a great while when I need a good laugh), I'm always amazed at how these deranged folks are so powerfully drawn to each other. It's always either a mouth-frothing scream-fest or a big cyber-pity party.
Well, here's a fascinating post that explains the neuroscience behind this phenomenon known as "emotional contagion".
The next time you see a poll that shows Republicans or Conservatives being "happier" than Democrats and Liberals, remember that physiology plays a big part. Bottom line: Angry and negative people are bad for your health. Stay away from them. You'd think this would be common sense, no?

Quiz Question Insults Condi
A test given for a course at Bellevue Community College reads like this:
"Condoleezza holds a watermelon just over the edge of the roof of the 300-foot Federal Building, and tosses it up with a velocity of 20 feet per second."
Nice. Needless to say, it garnered some complaints. Who's the teacher who wrote the question? The college ain't sayin'.
"The college declined to release the name of the teacher who wrote the question. [Bellevue Community College President Jean] Floten said the teacher has apologized and requested cultural-sensitivity training.
The test question was originally written with the name of a comedian, Gallagher, whose signature shtick was to smash a variety of objects, often watermelons. Later, the question was rewritten, and the name was changed to Condoleezza, Floten said."
In 2004,
John Kerry carried King County, WA by 66%. You probably don't have to think too hard to figure out the political inclinations of the teacher in question, though.
It's probably one of those "racially-sensitive" Liberals.

To Hell In A Handbasket
What do you get when you take one of the biggest bastions of small-government Yankee Conservatism and add an influx of aging ex-hippie, tofu-eating, dope-smoking, Chomsky-reading moonbats who elect an avowed Socialist as their only Congressman and a certifiable lunatic as their former Governor?
The highest per capita taxes in the entire nation. Calvin Coolidge must be rolling in his grave. Dang Flatlanders!

All true, it is now a total moonbat paradise. I remember 'Bob,' who was delivering my 5th cord of wood in preparation for the coming winter observe that "real Vermonters" don't go for such tomfoolerty, and the moonbats live only in Burlington, and "got no bark on em'." He laughed you could always spot em' by their LL Bean stuff.
Damn it's a beautiful place, the hike to the top of camel's hump is awesome, and x-country skiing cannot be beaten. It is truly amazing how too many Ben & Jerry's could ruin the place and turn it into a socialist tyranny. But they did only a few short years after they left Boston, and New York. Vermonters thought those people were Americans, but the immigrants from the west and south lied... they were subversive to the pure democracy in the Republic of Vermont.
