Now Here Is An Idealist If Ever I Saw One

The Real Ugly American is a site I recently added to the blogroll. He describes himself in this way: "Still a Registered Democrat but I'm really disapointed in my party right now." Well, if his experiences as related on this thread don't convince him to unregister from that affiliation, I don't know what will.

He left a comment on a post at The Washington Monthly that posed four simple questions to his fellow Democrats. What he got from them was insults and hostility. He is confronting a sad fact that I learned a long time ago - the pointlessness of engaging these cretins.

1 Honestly I am not sure what to do Ex-Donkey. Maybe this blog can help *shrug*. I do know I am not yet ready to give up the fight for the future of my life long party. Most of these Bush haters belong in a green party, or socialist party or in many cases the communist party. They certainly do not resemble the Democrats I grew up admiring. JFK, Harry Truman, etc. Hell Zell Miller made me proud to be a Dem. Joe Lieberman has a lot of great moments.

2 They may belong to a Green party or Socialist party, but today's Democrat party belongs to them. Your opinion is squashed if it doesn't conform to their whacko conspiracy theories. They don't want you in their party (and yes, it is their party now). To them, you are a heretic to be purged from the ranks. They are the money source and they are the activists. As MoveOn.org's Eli Pariser said of the Democrat party: "We bought it, we own it, it's ours." I admire your perseverance, but one day you may get tired of banging your head against the wall and realize that it feels good to stop.

3 I can't argue with anything you have said. I am just not ready to give up the fight for my party yet. Our country needs two viable parties with competing ideas. If the Democratic Party continues as it is now we are headed for de facto one party rule by the Republicans which is definitely more in tune with the American people right now. As you well know your party has its share of disapointments. Yesterdays amendment in the Senate comes to mind. Illegal immigration is a bipartisan screwing of the American people.

4 Sorry for the double post. I forgot to mention I like your blog and respect your opinion.
