North Korean Pledges To Quit Nuke Program

Now only a fool would completely trust that little buck-toothed punk, Kim Jong Il, at anything he promises, but it turns out that the six-nation negotiations have born at least some fruit - an agreement by North Korea to dismantle its nook-yoo-lar program. Of course, the North Korean dictator was able to extract its pound of flesh from the U.S. and its Asian allies as part of the bargain - simply put, money. And that of course was the whole point of their nuclear blackmail.

What's most amusing however is that I can recall a certain French-looking Democrat Presidential Candidate who went on and on about how a six-nation negotiation was too complicated and the only way the U.S. could succeed was to deal one-on-one with North Korea. What a genius, huh?

The New Fall TV Season: What I'll Be Watching...And Why

First off let me point out that having the opportunity to watch any television between changing poopie diapers, reading stories, helping with homework, performing various domestic chores and maintaining two blogs is a miracle unto itself. So if there is a particular show that I watch it's only because I really, really like it or my wife does and I love her enough to endure it so we can share the alone time together.

So there aren't that many to list. And please don't bother making suggestions for anything that doesn't appear below because though I have no doubt it's good, I just don't have the time. Thanks anyway.

Also keep in mind that any specific night and time of broadcast is irrelevant as I'm most likely going to tape it and watch it another time. more...

Regime Change In Germany...

The voters have spoken and the winner is...Angela Merkel and the Christian Democrats with an estimated 36% of the vote. Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrats got 33.6%.

The Christian Democrats, the more conservative and pro-American of the two largest German political parties, fell short of the anticipated 40%+ they were expected to get, but this puts Angela Merkel in as the new Chancellor.

Without a majority, Merkel may be forced as chancellor into a coalition with the Social Democrats, probably without Schroeder.
Looks like one of the Axis of Weasels has been shown the door. Who's next?

UPDATE: 11:00pm
It's now reported as too close to call with both Schroeder and Merkel claiming victory. Could be be counting "hanging chads" in Dusseldorf?

Brazile Puts Partisan Politics Aside

Donna Brazile, the Democrat political consultant who ran Al Gore's 2000 Presidential Campaign, has an editorial in today's WaPo.

Brazile, author of "Cooking With Grease: Stirring The Pots In America", writes of her strong support for President Bush's plan for the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast region. She writes:

On Thursday night President Bush spoke to the nation from my city. I am not a Republican. I did not vote for George W. Bush -- in fact, I worked pretty hard against him in 2000 and 2004. But on Thursday night, after watching him speak from the heart, I could not have been prouder of the president and the plan he outlined to empower those who lost everything and to rebuild the Gulf Coast.

Bush called on every American to stand up and support the rebuilding of the region. He told us that New Orleans and the entire Gulf Coast would rise from the ruins stronger than before. He enunciated something that we all need to remember: This is America. We are not immune to tragedy here, but we are strong because of our industriousness, our ingenuity and, most important, because of our compassion for one another. We are a nation of rebuilders and a nation of givers. We do not give up in the face of tragedy, we stand up, and we reach out to help those who cannot stand up on their own.

The president called on every American to reach out to my neighbors in New Orleans and throughout the Gulf Coast. The great people of this country have already opened their hearts in the immediate aftermath of the storm, and their tremendous generosity has done more than just provide extra comfort -- it has saved lives. Now the crisis of survival is over. But the task of rebuilding remains, and the president made it clear that every single one of us has a role to play.

Unlike so many other Democrats who seek to use this national tragedy as merely a blunt instrument to beat up on the President, Brazile recognizes the need for the this country to come together for its citizens. Her words are a breath of fresh air from a political environment that has been poisoned by her party.

Germany's Schroeder Fighting For His Political Life...

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and his Marxist...er I mean Social Democrat Party are fighting down to the wire for whatever votes they can muster in the face of a strong challenge from the Christian Democrats (Germany's more conservative party) in tomorrow's parliamentary elections.

The leader of the Christian Democrats - Angela Merkel - is campaigning on job creation and economic reform. God knows Germany could use some of that these days. It's unemployment rate is 11.4% and economic growth was last recorded at a sluggish 1.6%.

What happened to the German powerhouse that once challenged the U.S. economically? Simple: Socialism. It looks good on paper, but in the real world the enormous welfare state Germany has created is crushing its once prosperous economy. more...

RI's Chafee - Better Safe Than Sorry?

Jayson at Polipundit makes the case for the White House backing Lincoln Chafee for reelection.

Chafee votes for cloture on every bill and every appointment, and his voting record on the merits is very similar to that of putative “conservative Democrat” {cough} Ben Nelson of Nebraska. But a Rhode Island Democrat taking over that seat would be an automatic loss of one net vote – on every issue – to the Boxer/Kennedy/Leahy/Kerry wing of the MediaCrat Party.
I'm still not 100% convinced but - when you consider what may be at stake in the Senate - it's hard to argue against it. As he says: "this isn't an ideal world".

Pimp My Blog

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Phin and Sadie of Apothegm Designs for the great job they did with the redesign.

After I switched to a new domain and Movable Type, I looked around at several site designers. Not only did I really like Apothegm's portfolio, but their philosophy of client collaboration and customization impressed me. And they did not disappoint.

Sadie's patience and guidance was a major factor in creating a layout, design and functionality that I'm really pleased with. She was really open to my input and honest enough to give me the benefit of her perspective when something didn't quite work. They even imported my old Blogger archives to the new site - something I was really dreading doing myself. It was a terrific experience for me. And I always felt that the success of this project was as important to them as it was to me.

If you're in the market to for a new look - look no further.

Ex-Donkey is a happy camper. :-)

ABC Looks For Negative Spin On Speech - Gets None

The producers of ABC News sent reporter Dean Reynolds out to interview New Orleans residents displaced by Katrina to Houston. Despite leading questions and Dean's continued pressing for something...anything negative about President Bush's speech last night, the evacuees weren't biting. If anything, they ripped into local officials.

Reynolds asked Connie London: "Did you harbor any anger toward the President because of the slow federal response?" She rejected the premise: "No, none whatsoever, because I feel like our city and our state government should have been there before the federal government was called in." She pointed out: "They had RTA buses, Greyhound buses, school buses, that was just sitting there going under water when they could have been evacuating people."
Sorry guys. Keep looking...

There will be very light posting today...sorry.

But very soon a big change will be overtaking the site. "My God, man!" you say. "What could possibly be bigger than having just switched over from Blogger to Munuviana?!? Or adding smilies, for that matter?"

Patience...you shall see. (I'm such a tease.)

Stop The Presses! President Bush Actually Uses the Potty!

Reuters has finally captured evidence that the President does, in fact, go to the bathroom - despite speculation that he has a magic digestive system controlled by Karl Rove!

bathroom break.jpg

WTF is this all about? I mean, it would at least be somewhat interesting if he had written: "Condi, cover for me. I have to go heave a Havana!" or something crude like that.

But this makes the Reuters wire?

MoDo unleashes bitter rant against W...Again

In her latest NY Times "piece" today.

My favorite part is the first two sentences.

I hate spending time in hospitals and nursing homes. I find them to be some of the most depressing places on earth.
Based on her recent output since Bush was re-elected, I would have thought that she considers her own office to be the most depressing place on earth.
