Connect the dots...

Gee, do you think this story: "Bush Honesty Rating Drops To Lowest Point" has anything to do with this story: "Network Coverage Of Bush Mostly Negative"?

And BTW, here's the "scientific" methodology used in that poll:

"The survey...was conducted from July 8-11 among 1,009 adults, and...has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points"
Once again, the sample is simply "adults", not registered voters that you can weigh according to party affiliation. And probably not people who are paying very much attention to current events beyond what they get from the evening news (how many of them can actually name the Vice-President?). In fact, I'd like to know just how many of those contacted are - demographically and geographically speaking - people likely to support the President in any event. The article is strangely silent on these details.

Why does the MSM continue to gin up bogus polls to try and show the "unpopularity" of a President who is NOT running for re-election?

One reason only: to try to undermine his credibility both here at home and abroad.

Well here's a newsflash to the MSM: George W. Bush could give a shit about these polls. He's probably laughing out loud about them in the Oval Office while he does exactly what he campaigned on and what the MAJORITY of U.S. voters elected him to do.

Unlike certain ex-President's who will argue the meaning of the word "is", Bush doesn't wet his finger and stick it in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.

He's a leader and the Bush-hating media will never understand that.

Know Thy Enemy...

Mohammed Bouyeri, the Islamopsycho who murdered Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, told the public gallery at his trial that if released he would do it again. He then turned to his victim's mother, Anneke, and said:
"I don't feel your pain. I have to admit that I don't have any sympathy for you. I can't feel for you because you're a non-believer."
Reality mirrors art:

"Listen. And understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
- The Terminator (1984)

Why Class Warfare Doesn't Work Anymore...

You know the old stereotype of Republicans. It's pushed all the time by the Left - "tax cuts for the rich" and all that. Hell, I was weaned on it. The GOP is the party of the wealthy and "winners of life's lottery" and the Democrats are all about the "working man". Yeah right.

The truth is the Republican party - and the policies it pursues - is the party for everyone who wants to take control of their own destiny, take responsibility for their own success or failure, work hard and achieve their dreams. I learned this late in life, once I was able to push aside my learned prejudices. When I was a kid, this class warfare crap worked well because the Left controlled the media and reinforced the propaganda spewed out by the DNC.

Jerry Bowyer looks at this Monopoly Guy image we still hear about nowadays and analyzes why it is failing in his column at Tech Central Station today. Looking at the dopey theory put forth by Thomas Frank in his book "What's Wrong With Kansas?", Bowyer presents the reality that exists in the 31 "Red" States that went for Bush in 2004. Frank's premise is that the unwashed masses out in flyover country are really a natural constituency for the Democrats, but they are scared into voting for the GOP because of wedge social issues. Nonsense, says Bowyer. The Red States vote for Bush (and identify with the Republicans) because this administration's policies are greatly benefiting the folks that Democrats used to own. Bowyer dubs them the "aspirational class".

The numbers speak for themselves. There is a huge gap in Personal Income Per Capita between Blue States and Red States ($35,500 v. $29,724). The heart of Democrat territory (especially the Northeast) is actually "richer" than the Bush States. So who's the party of the rich? Doesn't seem to make sense. By that logic, the Blue and Red States should be flipped-flopped? No?

But while average Gross State Product growth was comparatively the same (4.32% v. 4.14%), the acceleration rate is like night and day. In 1st Quarter 2005, Red States collectively saw a 1.05% jump in growth compared to a .29% increase for Blue States. Strong economic growth creates more jobs.

As Bowyer explains:

Overall national economic growth was quite strong and income growth was very strong. The economy was doing well and the President was reelected. Kansas was doing as well as everybody else. Iowa and Nevada were doing much better than everybody else.
So as the institutions of the Blue States - unions, ivy league schools and old media - wither and those of the Red States - small businesses and Wal-Mart - thrive, the more vexing question should be "What's wrong with New Jersey?"

Quote of the Day...

From Pat Sajak in Human Events, on the state of the Democrat party:
They act as if they are still the majority party whose rights are being trampled by a herd of rogue elephants. They’re like a professional boxer who is KO’d by his opponent only to argue he should win on points. So they obstruct, they accuse, they flail about wildly hoping something—anything—will get those ignorant voters to see the error of their ways and return the world to the way it was meant to be.

White House source: John Bolton will take a recess appointment...

The WaPo is reporting that an administration source confirms Bush will make a recess appointment for John Bolton as U.N. Ambassador.

"He'll take the recess" appointment, said the administration source, who is familiar with Bolton's thinking. "The president has made his selection, and the president is asking the Senate to confirm the selection, and if the Senate refuses to do that, then most assuredly [Bush] will make a recess appointment."

The president is constitutionally empowered to fill vacancies when the Senate is in recess, and the appointments are effective through the final adjournment of the sitting Congress. The White House took no action during last week's Fourth of July break. The next recess, scheduled to last a month, starts July 30.

And what will the Democrats say? Probably nothing as their currently too busy chasing down this bogus Karl Rove story.

Bush wins again. And when the appointment runs out, the next Congress will likely be missing a couple of Red-State Democrats who'll have felt the backlash of this filibuster horseshit.

Rosie O'Doughnuts visits Canada; Goes after Bush...

OK, I admit that was a little gratuitous.

But she did take the occasion to criticize the President while praising our Northern neighbors for their current hospitality towards same-sex marriage. Interestingly enough, the Canadian Press article states the she arrived "with her wife, Kelli O'Donnell" and a couple paragraphs later casually mentions that O'Donnell's "marriage was annulled in California after it was legally challenged".

Umm, so then Miss Kelli wouldn't really be her wife then, would she? Whatever.

At a reception atop Citadel Hill in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she shouted out to the crowd in her best baritone screech:

"We love Canada," she said. "In fact, most Americans love Canada a lot more than they used to before we had our current president. Now we love you even more. Every time he opens his mouth Canada gets a little more appealing."
Well, Rosie. There's nothing stopping you. Don't let the doorknob hit you in the ass on your way out.

This is rich...

Prominent psychologist collapses from doing "whippits" in the dairy aisle of a West Hartford, CT supermarket. I used to live in West Hartford and, while I don't know this doctor, I know the Farmington Avenue Stop & Shop well enough.

[Lisa G.] Berzins, 49, of Farmington, has a practice in West Hartford. She has written and lectured on eating disorders, female development, sex roles and self-esteem, according a speaker's biography from the American Psychological Association.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, West Hartford police responded to the Farmington Avenue Stop & Shop and found Berzins lying on the floor and bleeding from her head. Berzins, the affidavit says, told police she did not know what happened.

Police interviewed witnesses and collected evidence, then determined that Berzins apparently inhaled from three cans of whipped cream containing nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas, the affidavit says.

Sounds like this twit has self-esteem issues of her own.

You can't say you "support the troops" if you don't support the mission...

Dennis Prager's column shows how those on the Left are full of it when they say that they "support the troops". They may claim to in order to get someone to listen to them, but Prager picks apart every one of their specious arguments. And he gets to the heart of the matter:

An honest leftist would say: "Because I view this war as immoral, I cannot support our troops." What is not honest is their saying, "Support the troops -- bring them home." Supporting people who wish to fight entails supporting their fight; and if that fight is opposed, those waging it are also opposed.

Many on the Left angrily accuse the Right of disparaging their patriotism. That charge, too, is false. I have never heard a mainstream conservative impugn the patriotism of liberals. But as regards their attitude toward our troops, the patriotism of those on the Left is not the issue. The issue is their honesty.

Jeans back on the "rise"...

Thank God, the fashion trend is turning around. The low-rise is on it's way out and jeans are returning back to normal. The NY Post has an article about it.

"Plumber's butt" is officially on the way out, along with tummy roll-over, peek-a-boo panties and jeans that require a bikini wax.

After five years of plummeting waistbands, denim designers are finally raising the bar for fall.

"People are coming in and saying, 'I don't want to be so exposed,'" says Caroline Roberts, owner of the Upper East Side boutique Pookie & Sebastian, which specializes in jeans.

While some guys out there may feel a little glum over this turn of events, I for one welcome it. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a cute midriff myself. But the low-rise thing had two serious negatives:

  • One, the age of girls wearing these fashions was getting lower and lower. While I don't have any daughters, I cringe at the idea of having one as a preteen walking around in these trashy little outfits (not that I would ever let her).
  • Second, the fact is that very few girls actually looked good in these things. I mean, how many times have you been in a store or a mall or a movie theater and seen bellies flopping out over the waist or hips bulging out on the sides. The peer pressure to conform put the burden on our eyes to endure these ghastly sights.
I noted a while back that the fashion world was already anticipating this movement toward more modest styles. It's indicative of an overall trend that shows young girls are becoming more aware of how cheap and tawdry they were looking and have learned to respect their bodies - and themselves - more.

I know there are some folks - even parents - who see the waning style and wonder what the big deal is. But listen to this creepy 23-year old jeans salesman who laments the new trend:

"I love to see girls in low pants," he says. "It turns guys on. It's like free soft-core porn ... .I like them low in the front, low in the back, but I'm really not into all kinds of crack. But hey, if it comes out, it's all good."
Dads - this could be your daughter he's looking at.

"Peace Activists" attack cop...

Matthew at Fresh Tasty Ideas links this photo of a police officer who got his head bashed in by the supposed peace-loving yahoos protesting the G8 summit. You know, the left-wing douche bags dressed as clowns. The story is also carried by Michelle Malkin and Ace, but Matthew's commentary is noteworthy:
"If the one assaulted was a homosexual at a gay rights parade in San Francisco, you can bet your *%# that picture would be plastered all over the NY Times front page, talked about nonstop on ABC news, and the inspiration for some knee-jerk, feel good legislation on Capitol Hill."
Unfortunately, most of the folks in the MSM probably grew up calling police officers "pigs". So why should they care if one gets beat up?

GOP: The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades...and a WHOLE lotta sunblock!

Whenever I see something about shifting demographics, like this Washington Times article, I always go over to Polipundit. And he didn't disappoint me today.

The latest Census projections show Blue States in the Northeast bleeding population down South and out West.

Census Bureau projections show significant population shifts over the next three decades. The share of Americans living in the Northeast and Midwest will fall from 42 percent to 35 percent of the population, while the South and West will rise from 58 percent to 65 percent.
Making it a hell of a lot harder - if not impossible - for a Democrat to win without picking up some Red States.

Hollywood dingbat realizes she should have kept her mouth shut...

When Maggie Gyllenenhen...Gillinaheyn...Gilligynahen...Maggie the actress said in an interview last April that America was "responsible in some way" for 9/11, she apparently didn't understand either the stupidity and inappropriateness of her comments.

But she figured out how unpopular it made her pretty damn quick.

She later issued a statement through her publicist saying that Sept. 11 was "an occasion to be brave enough to ask some serious questions about America's role in the world."

"I was so surprised by the way it was misunderstood, and the disdain that came back at me was a real shock," Gyllenhaal told the Daily News for an interview published Sunday. "I regret what I said, but I think my intentions were good."

So it's OK, you see. Her intentions were good. Isn't that just like a clueless Liberal.

And umm, exactly HOW was she misunderstood? It seemed pretty plain to me. The United States being "responsible in some way" for the attack says pretty clearly we made them do it and that - even in the smallest way - the attack was somehow justified.

She doesn't really get it, of course. She just wants to make sure some of her audience doesn't penalize her by avoiding her movies.

Of course, Maggie did make one observation that hits the mark:

Gyllenhaal told the newspaper that the backlash taught her "that neither the red carpet nor an interview about a movie is the right place to talk about my politics.
Bingo, sweetheart! Now kindly go back and recite some words that other people wrote for you. We just want you to perform and entertain us, we could give a crap about your opinions. Because - as Dirty Harry says - opinions are like a-holes, everybody's got one. And yours is no more important than anyone else's.

NEWSFLASH: Most coverage of Bush is negative...

Actually, at first this seems like nothing more than another "duh" story, but then if the Washington Times doesn't report it, who will?

More than two-thirds of the news stories on ABC, NBC and CBS covering the first 100 days of Mr. Bush's second term were negative, according to an analysis released today by the District-based Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA).

It's actually a slight improvement: During the first 100 days of his initial term in office, the coverage was 71 percent negative, according to a similar CMPA study conducted in 2001.

I love the rationale the CMPA gives: "Presidents tend to get bad coverage during their second terms. The press is sick of them by then." But they were less negative than his first term? Here's the scoop: Networks were sick of Bush before any votes were cast in 2000.

Who was the worst? ABC with 78% negative. No surprise there.

So over the last six months, the economy is racing along at a brisk pace with steady growth and unemployment down to 5%. The Iraqis come out in huge numbers to peacefully vote for a new government and are gradually taking control over their own security. America continues to be successfully shielded from any terrorist attacks.

And four out five Bush stories out of ABC are negative? Gee, no bias there.
