I can't stand the fact that this turd is one of my Senators. Back in the Eighties he did everything he could to prop up the Communists in Central America. He used to gush all over the Nicaraguan dictator Daniel Ortega - who was getting support from Cuba and the Soviets to expand their influence in the Western Hemisphere.
And now he attacks Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez - a true American success story - for his own petty partison agenda.
Prior to his confirmation (which was all but assured), Dodd questions whether the first Hispanic-American AG in American history will "uphold the values upon which those laws are based. Regrettably, and disturbingly in my view, Alberto Gonzales has fallen short of meeting this most basic and fundamental standard". Hispanics in this country should be outraged - and don't think at least some of them won't be.
Chris Dodd is a disgrace to the U.S. Senate and I'm glad that they picked Tommy Daschle over him for Senate Leader back in the Nineties. He wanted it so bad, too. Loser!
Now the only way he can get his quotes written up is by making a true jack-ass of himself.
UPDATE...
Good for Sen. Joe Lieberman my other Senator who voted for Gonzalez yesterday. Joe is a great guy who, except for when he had to kowtow to the liberal loonies when he was on the ticket with Gore in 2000, I am proud to have represent me. If there were more Lieberman's in the Democrat party they wouldn't be in the sad state that they are today.

Now whenever you see pictures of people from China, you never see any that are fat. WTF? I can't figure this one out.
Maybe if you eat over a certain number of calories the Red Chinese Government officials beat down your door and put a bullet in your head.
Roast Pork Lo Mein...Mmmmmmmm.

I'm not totally surprised, as the show has had lackluster ratings since it's inception. I have to say that I'm really annoyed, though. I was a big fan of the original series - I think I saw each original episode about 250 times in reruns growing up. I watched a couple seasons of the Next Generation before I lost interest. And I refused to waste my time with that Deep Space Nine and Voyager garbage.
When this series was announced, I was pumped because it was getting back to a time when Star Trek was about what seemed like a much smaller universe. And I really did get into the storylines. Ah, well. Unless it's picked by by the Sci-Fi channel I'll have one less TV show to watch (not there are all that many that I really care about).
At least Battlestar Galactica is showing promise for renewal. Rumor has it NBC may even pick it up for its line-up next year.
Les Moonves is a creep. Wanker!!

From CNN, 86% polled gave "very positive" or "positive" response to the speech. 13% reacted negatively. And I want to know how many idiots make up the 1% who said, "dunno".

I hate them with the white-hot intensity of a thousand burning suns.
Why? Simple. I'm a New York Giants fan and will be until they bury me in my Lawrence Taylor # 56 replica jersey. I'm lying about the burying part. I plan to be cremated - while wearing the jersey of course.
I don't think there is an older rivalry in the NFL. If there is it's Bears and Packers but we're dating back to 1925 here. For me it's a little more recent - 1979. The famous "fumble" game where the Giants had a lead against the Eagles in the final two minutes of the game. A game which was serving as the end cap to a horrible, last place, 6-9 (at that point) season for Big Blue. All they had to do was take a knee. But no, they decided to run a play. The Giants muff a simple hand-off. The ball drops to the turf. The Eagles pick it up and run into the end zone. Game over.
Oh sure, the Giants have had their share of sweet victories over Philadelphia over the years. But for me, the most bitter losses come at the hands of that team.
I watched some of the NFC Championship game and the cockiness of those guys oozed out of my brother's flat screen TV. Yeah, I know the last three years they were one game away from the Superbowl and they were pumped at the prospect of going this year. But they over did it.
Now they go up against the Pats. Despite living in the Southwest corner of New England, I never was a Patriots fan. The whole time I was growing up they were the joke of the AFC East. Even their unlikely appearance in Superbowl XX against the Bears was a humiliating defeat. No thanks.
But this team is unbelievable. Led by Head Coach Bill Belichick (a former Defensive Coordinator of two Giants Superbowl champion teams I might add), I have to say they are the real deal. Offense, Defense, Special Teams. It's all there. And I'm really looking forward to New England humiliating the Eagles on national TV. There's probably nothing worse in the NFL than LOSING a Superbowl (trust me on this one). And I can't wait for all those Eagles fans to be crying in their beers come Sunday night.
Besides, Tom Brady is a Republican.
Go PATS!!! I'm countin' on ya.

He writes how, in the SOTU, Bush pays tribute to the soldiers by saluting the parents of the fallen marine, Sgt. Byron Norwood:
The Marine helped overthrow a regime that indisputably had ties to Al Qaeda. And he performed the most basic act of civilization, protecting the weak against the wicked. Under Saddam Hussein, Iraqis lost their fingers. Now they raise their fingers after voting against his dwindling followers. Had John F. Kennedy accomplished such an epoch-changing shift in Iraq, the Democrats would have nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. Instead, they castigate Bush for turning into reality the ennedyesque rhetoric of liberty they once lauded.Unfortunately, John Kennedy was - in my opinion - the last great Democrat. The current Kennedy in the parties hierarchy - Tailspin Teddy (who was notably absent for last nights speech) - has become a joke. Old Joe Kennedy would be ashamed today.

And yes, they didn't get their "message" out. First of all, the only message coming from them these days is "if George W. Bush is for it, we're against it."
There was a time when Democrats were considered the visionary party, the party of reform and the party of ideals. That pretty much started to change in the summer of 1968 and now they've become the reactionary party - the "no" party.
Voegeli puts gives a nice summary of the party that is (like the premise of "Seinfeld") about nothing. See: "The Endless Party".

Freedom from fear. Harkening back to FDR here. One of his "four freedoms". The Patriot Act works. Stop bitching and admit it.
The only way to defeat oppression is the force of human freedom. And the enemy knows this.
UPDATE...
Biden just tried to incite mass clapping at the sound of $$ for Palestinians. It died withing seconds. Oops.
C'mon Saudis, C'mon Egyptians. You can do it. Baby steps, now.
Syria, boooooo. Accountability NOW.
Iran now. The Europeans are going to lean on them? Yeah, right. They going to threaten to beat them with a stale baguette? To the Iranian citizens in opposition: America Stands With You. They need to hear that if they're going to put their asses on the line.
How 'bout them Iraqis? Ah, gallery guests now. Stand up Safia.
UPDATE...
Sgt. Byron Norwood's mom gets a hug from the Iraqi woman. A picture is worth a thousand blogs...

Social Security - fix it now before the aging Boomers cripple the younger generations. AARP? No thanks.
Retirees - relax, we're not taking your social security checks. Don't listen to the scare tactics.
You know now matter how simply you explain it to the average person, most just seem incapable of understanding.
Grumbling from the peanut gallery. They know they can't argue against the facts.
UPDATE...
Our children's security more important than partisan politics. He's talking to the nation, not the goofballs in this chamber.
...and the government can never take it away. Doesn't that make sense?
And all you schmucks have the same deal he's proposing for all Americans. So let the first jackass who complains withdraw from HIS personal retirement account. Anyone? Anyone?

Too bad half these asshats will be bad-mouthing him tomorrow - even members of his own party.
Sheila Jackson-Lee? How'd she get on the end? Isn't she the lone "no" vote on the resolution to invade Afghanistan, topple the Taliban and free 24 million souls? Yeah, nice.
Update...
Laura Bush looks so elegant. Thank God, the wacky ketchup goddess isn't the first lady.
...a free and sovereign Iraq! Boo-yah Baby!
Update...
Good move. Right out of the gate. It's about the FUTURE.
We done good, let's do some more.
Restrain the spending. Where are all those Democrat "deficit-hawks" now?
Update...
Taxpayers must be spent wisely or NOT AT ALL!! Oh yeah.
Kerry is squirming. What a load.
Tort reform. I love it. But I'll believe it when I see it. Half these jokers are ex-lawyers themselves.
More self-reliance, less government. Is that the sound of the air letting out of the Democrat Pary that I hear?

This one guy, who I normally don't deal with on a daily basis, begins talking to no one in particular but to the whole group that has gathered at that point. Now this guy is a raging liberal and unabashed Clinton-apologist, and everyone is pretty familiar with his political leanings as he'll share them with anyone who cares to listen.
So he pipes up, "Can I take a poll, here?". Everyone just kind of looks at him and nods apathetically. "Is everyone else here sick of hearing about Iraq?" Then he sort of chortles as he expects everyone to join in.
Uncomfortable silence as his chuckle begins to trail off.
"Actually", I say with pretty firm conviction, "I think its pretty amazing."
He just kind of has this awkward look on his face like he couldn't believe someone wouldn't agree with him - this IS a blue state after all. So he kind of smiled nervously and shrugged his shoulders, "well, guess we're not all in agreement then".
I guess I'm just continually amazed that anyone could be so bitter and so angry at Bush that they can't even be happy for these people. I believe many Democrats and liberals were just holding out hope that Sunday would have been a disaster - barely any turnout and a bloodbath for those who did. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be so negative, so pathetically wrapped up in your own hatred and despair that you wish for something like this to fail only because you want that failure to reflect on the President. Very sad. Very, very sad.

Funny, but I sat here for quite a while before I actually hit the "next" button to kick this thing off. Millions of blogs out there and was I going to shoot the works or wimp out?
Ah, what the hell.
Why Blog? Well, the primary mission is to read my own garbage. But beyond that I've found myself over the last five or six years turning stuff over and over in my mind and I seem more comfortable tapping it out on a keyboard. Plus I think I need a place to keep it all together.
I plan on keeping it simple. Only two topics: Politics and everything else that I like. And I have no idea how often I can post. So if you come across this little blog by sheer accident, go easy on the newbie.
