Al Qaeda: We're On The Ropes, But We'll Be Successful Once The Americans Leave

A letter from Bin Laden's number Two, Aymen al-Zawahiri, to his chief thug in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was intercepted and reveals the state of the enemy and their future plans.

It's a long document, provided in .pdf format by Foxnews here. Once you filter through all the "Allah be praised/the prophet/the Caliphate/blessing on top of blessings" gobbledigook, there are some interesting nuggets of information here.

First, an acknowledgement of failure in Afghanistan:

"The Summer started hot with operations escalating in Afghanistan. The enemy struck a blow against us with the arrest of Abu al-Faraj, may God break his bonds. However, no Arab brother was arrested because of him. The brothers tried-and were successful to a great degree-to contain the fall of Abu al-Faraj as much as they could.

However, the real danger comes from the agent Pakistani army that is carrying out operations in the tribal areas looking for mujahedeen"

How's that for damage control, huh? This guy's spinning is a match for most American political handlers. He also spells out a four-stage plan for the terrorists in Iraq which includes expelling the Americans (duh), establishing an Islamic authority to combat the new Iraqi government, extend the jihad to neighboring Islamic countries and then - Bam!- hit Israel.

What's most interesting about the plan is al-Zawahiri's comments about the U.S. troops:

Things may develop faster than we imagine. The aftermath of the collapse of American power in Vietnam -and how they ran and left their agents - is noteworthy. Because of that, we must be ready starting now, before events overtake us, and before we are surprised by the conspiracies of the Americans and the United Nations and their plans to fill the void behind them. We must take the initiative and impose a fait accompli [it figures he would use French] upon our enemies, instead of the enemy imposing one on us, wherein our lot would be to merely resist their schemes.
What's abundantly clear by this paragraph alone is that anyone who still tries to make the claim that Iraq is not a legitimate front in the Global War on Terror has no credibility. Al Qaeda has been using, is currently using, and will continue to use Iraq has a battleground in this war. A successful popularly-elected government in Iraq is a death-blow to their cause and something they are fighting to the death to prevent. This is why we fight. Our men in women in uniform understand this. They live it every day.

But all these Left-wing, anti-American "peaceniks" don't understand this. Nor do they care. If they can use their recent call for a complete withdrawal packaged with the ever-popular symbol of peace to advance a political agenda against President Bush, that works for them. Everyone would like to see our troops come home, sooner rather than later. But they have a job to do. And more than anything else, they need our appreciation and support.

So the moonbats will continue to bark. And guess what? The media will continue to record it and play it over and over to our enemies. And why not?

It's obvious that they're listening.
